5 Simple Ways to Serve Others

Serving others doesn’t have to be a grandiose plan that takes a lot of time and financial resources. You can serve others in small but influential ways each and every day. All it takes is some awareness and lots of practice. Here are five simple ways you can serve others today:
1. Random acts of kindness- These are little things you can do throughout your day to help someone else. They don’t have to take a lot of time but they can be very impactful. These include holding the door for someone else, letting someone go ahead of you in traffic, or helping a stranger carry groceries. They are especially profound when you do them for complete strangers.
2. Give a compliment- Take the time to compliment someone today. It can be someone you know or love such as a friend or family member but it can also include strangers whom you don’t even know. It is amazing how the human mind reacts to a compliment. There might be initial resistance to the kind words but your compliment will leave the receiver feeling very good whether they want to admit it or not.
3. Listen- Sometimes we need someone to talk to. Serve someone today by listening. Let someone share their problems or feelings with you. Allow them to vent if necessary. Don’t judge what is being said, rather just be and listen. This can be tremendously helpful for someone in need.
4. Share- It can be anything but share what you have with someone else. This kind of service can go a long way in brightening someone else’s day. It doesn’t have to be a big gesture. It can be as simple as giving the last piece of pizza to a friend or someone who deserves it.
5. Volunteer- Whether it be at a soup kitchen, daycare, nursing home volunteer some of your time to a worthy cause. There is always the need for hard working and engaging volunteers. Give your service to someone else in need.
Serving others doesn’t merely help others. It also benefits you. You will gain an improved state of well-being and happiness by simply serving others. The more you can serve on a daily basis the better. Serving others doesn’t need to take a lot of time or energy but it needs to be sincere and selfless.
