“Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they’ve been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It’s an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It’s a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” –Muhammad Ali (World Champion Boxer)
I love this quote because it epitomizes the mind frame you need in order to achieve your life goals. When it comes to becoming a great basketball player or coach, it is just like anything else you want in life; the greater amount of effort you put into it, the greater the output. I think if a person maximizes his or her potential by working hard, and giving their best, then that’s all that matters in the end. Most times you will get the results you want because you are putting your best foot forward. Sometimes people put too much emphasis on winning or losing, and less on the effort and attitude exemplified throughout the process. Since I am still a player, I understand the amount of work it takes for me to become the best player possible. Whether it is taking extra shots after practice, or going into the weight room, I always try to give 100% in everything pertaining to basketball. I think this is a valuable lesson for kids wanting to play basketball because if you have a work ethic in basketball, then you will have one in life as well.
The knowledge I have learned throughout my years of playing, I hope to bring to the forefront of the coaching spectrum. My brother Mike has more experience in this field because of his prior two years of college coaching, so I hope to learn from him along the way. I am excited and privileged to be a part of this endeavour and I hope we both can be a big influence in people’s lives. To me, that would be more satisfying than anything I have accomplished on the basketball court. And remember, whether it is in basketball, or anything else in life, never say you cannot do something. As long as you have the will power to not give up and strive for your best, than anything is possible in life.
