Thought of the Week: Instead of Holding a Grudge, Practice Forgiveness

“It’s one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself, to forgive. Forgive everybody.”  -Maya Angelou

Today’s message came to me while I was doing yoga. I was reflecting on life, and realized how even more wonderful life would be if we could all just forgive one another. Too many times we hold grudges against someone else for too long, and where does it ultimately take us? Was it worth it? I read stories about people forgiving those who have murdered someone they love, and I think to myself, if these people have the courage to forgive, then we all as humans have this capability inside of us. I think the act of forgiving someone else will always have a better feeling than holding a grudge inside. We become more at ease with not only ourselves, but life as well. There are too many amazing aspects of this world that we should be spending our time and energy on, rather than holding a grudge with someone else. So the next time you feel like spiting someone or have ill-advised feelings toward another, remember that forgiveness is the only practical solution. Not only will you feel better, but you might influence that other person in a positive manner as well.
